Prior to her time with the program, Susanna was a standout performer at George Mason High School (now Meridian High, in Falls Church, VA) garnering All-Region, All-District and All-State honors in both cross country and track and winning Virginia State Championships in the 1600m and 3200m.
After running collegiately at the University of Notre Dame, Susanna’s post-collegiate time as a member of Capital Area Runners (2012-2020) was marked by steady improvement and several top-10 performances at U.S. road championships as well as two Olympic Trials appearances in the marathon. She demonstrated impressive range, with personal bests of 4:44 (mile) to 2:35 (marathon). She ran 2:35:37 at Grandma’s Marathon in her debut at that distance, and finished 20th at her first U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon in Los Angeles in 2016.
In 2020, Susanna began training under George Mason University Head Coach Andrew Gerard. His guidance has resulted in a rise to national prominence. In 2022, she won the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Miler, the first local champion since 1983 and the Penn Relays 5,000m in a then-personal best of 15:29. Her 6th place finish at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in October 2022 made her the 15th fastest all-time American female marathoner, and she continued to climb the rankings with a 10th place finish and new personal best of 2:24:27 at the TCS London Marathon. She was selected to compete in the 2023 World Championships in Budapest as part of Team USA, and competed in the 2024 Olympic Trials in the 10,000m.
